Mission Statement

The Pittsboro Fire Department will proudly and continuously protect life, property, and the environment from fire, natural disasters, and other emergencies for those who live, work, and travel in and through the Town of Pittsboro and surrounding districts with professional and honest personnel.

Staff & Volunteers

The Pittsboro Fire Department is a combination department, consisting of 3 full-time employees. The Fire Chief and two Captains work a regular 40-hour workweek. All of the full-time employees staff Station 12 on Sanford Road.

In addition to the paid staff, approximately 34 dedicated volunteers respond from 1 station and are available at a moment's notice.

Whether paid or volunteer, our personnel are trained in a wide variety of fire and rescue specialties. Many of our staff members are trained in several specialized areas such as:

  • Hazardous materials and radiological response
  • Vehicle extrication

History

The Pittsboro Fire Department was founded in 1936. We operate out of one station that protects residential as well as commercial areas. Our public department is a combination of paid and volunteer members and currently serves 103 square miles. Local individuals who may be interested in becoming a volunteer may contact us or stop by the station to pick up an application.
