Chief of Police

Shorty has worked in Chatham County his entire law enforcement career. He started his career in 1994 with the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office. He worked as a Patrol Deputy and a Detective for the department. In 2003, he went to work for the Siler City Police Department where he held several positions before coming to the Pittsboro Police Department in 2015.  In 2020, Shorty was appointed Chief of Police.

Shorty earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Appalachian State University in 1994.  In 2019, he obtained a Master of Justice Administration from Methodist University. Shorty has his Advanced Law Enforcement Certification, completed the North Carolina Justice Academy’s Criminal Investigators Certificate Program and graduated from the Piedmont Leadership Academy.


Deputy Chief 

Troy graduated from East Carolina University in 1995 and began his law enforcement career as a Park Ranger for NC State Parks.  In 2006, Troy was hired by the Pittsboro Police Department where he has served as Patrol Officer, Community Police Officer, Captain, and currently Deputy Chief.  Troy has completed numerous training courses throughout his career and holds an Advanced Law Enforcement Certification.
