Discrimination

It is against the law to discriminate against persons in the buying, renting, or financing of houses or apartments because of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, family status, or handicap.

The Fair Housing Act protects people from discrimination when they are renting or purchasing a home, applying for a mortgage, seeking housing assistance, or engaging in other housing-related matters. For the state of North Carolina specifically, Fair Housing means all personages have equal opportunity to be considered for rental units, purchase of property, housing loans, and property insurance. Under both the Federal and State Fair Housing Acts, individuals are protected from discrimination in housing based on their race, skin color, sex, familial status, national origin, religion, and disability.

Complaint Procedure

Pittsboro is firmly committed to Fair Housing practices throughout its jurisdiction. Therefore, the Fair Housing Discrimination Complaint Procedure (below) is in place if you feel as though you've been unfairly denied a housing opportunity.
